Red Bull Dance Your Style - Oakland

Was given the opportunity to shoot for Red Bull’s Dance Your Style National qualifier in Oakland. It has been a long time since I’ve shot stills and even longer since the last time I shot stills of dance. I think the last time was just before the pandemic when I was in Taiwan (which you can see in my last blog post) when I went with All The Way Live for their youth outreach. That was my first time experiencing an international dance event outside of Freestyle Session.

Shooting for Red Bull was a dope experience! Immediately after the event went into making 50 selects and editing. My mistake was over shooting - but being responsible for capturing the battles, trying to be selective of moments to capture was difficult. I shot over 5000 photos and had to pick 50 which then one of Red Bull’s media representatives narrowed those down to 30 for me to edit and upload to Dropbox and their cloud server.

I finally got around to making my selects and edits which is around 600+ photos lol

I got to document the final event in Taipei, my first international B-boy/B-girl event, it was a crazy dope experience! And I am really grateful I got to capture photos of the event!

Hualien B-Boy City, Taiwan

I got to experience my frist international dance event - Hualien B-boy City - Got to capture moments as media at the event. Making a highlight clip but for now I got through a lot of photos and edited a little over 600.

Held at The Promised Lands Resort in Hualien, Taiwan. They hosted an UNDISPUTED qualifier, a 2v2 b-boy/b-girl battle for a trip to Switzerland, and a 3v3 all styles dance battle.

They had showcases of some of their traditional dance forms, dancers from all over the world were in attendance. I had a crazy dope time capturing these! More to come from this trip in Taiwan!

All The Way Live Taiwan - Youth Outreach

All The Way Live Foundation is traveling back to Taiwan for their 10 year anniversary, it is where they started their youth outreach; and they had an open invite to dancer mentors/volunteers to be apart of this project, who have a positive outlook in life with an openness for the dance culture and an interest in sharing their dance experience, skills, and talents with the youth of Taiwan.

I'll be traveling with a group of passionate individuals in a week long project of youth outreach, dance & art workshops, panel discussions, as well as international dance battles & more! 

I'm grateful of this opportunity to be able to document this project through photos & video! 

Since All The Way Live is a non-profit organization, I'll have to pay may own way to be able to go along on this project. So I'm starting this fundraiser to help raise funds for things like airfare & lodging, as well as some video gear. The trip is in December, I'll need to book airfare soon and will also need to pick up some pieces of video/audio equipment to be able to document this project.

 In documenting this project I'll be creating, for the first time, a full length documentary film, that I'll also be submitting in to the San Francisco Dance Film Festival (Serge of ATWL suggested this, and this will be my first time doing something like this).

I'm not one to reach out for money, so in return for contributions of:

$50 - You will get an 8.5x11" print of select photos I've made. (will share directly with those who donate)

$100 - 30min portrait shoot - 5 edited photos 

$200+ - 1 Hour portrat shoot - 10 edited photos

For me, dance, photography & videography have given me so much, that being apart of projects like this, gives me an opportunity to give back. And now with my passion of documenting through photos & videos, I’ll be able to share these stories & experiences.

I’ve also started a documentary series of my own called “Behind The Dance,” where I’ll be sharing the stories of dancers lives on and off of the dance floor. That in turn will become a full length Dance Documentary. There are all kinds of sports and art documentaries, but there isn’t many or any at all on dance.

Being apart of this project with ATWL, aligns with my own personal passion project of being able to share these stories & experiences with the world.

No Requests - DJ QBert

Anthony Presents hosted a dope DJ showcase, featuring No Requests champions DJ Shawn Looney & DJ Bitesize. Along with them they featured Goldie Awards Champion Miles Medina & Legendary DJ Q-Bert. Recent Red Bull 3 Style Champion DJ J Espinosa was in the house, and Anthony and the bay welcomed and honored him and his victory! After QBert’s showcase, host Fran Boogie, asked that since we have 3 Bay Area All Star Champion DJ’s in one place, if we could get a little showcase from all 3 at one time.. and that was a moment that could not be recreated. It was dope to be able to capture them all in their element at the same time and place!
